Isotopes
|
Isotopes
are two or more atoms of the same chemical element with equal atomic numbers
and mass numbers. The difference between them is found in the number of neutrons.
Isotopes can differ into some characteristics, such as density and its
applicability, as in medicine, industry and scientific research. In medicine,
an example of a radioisotope is iodine-131 that is used in the treatment of
thyroid cancer because it accumulates in this organ, its gamma radiations
destroy the cancer cells.
